Seminar for Teachers being organized by the Malta Communications Authority (MCA)

For the past 4 years the Malta Communications Authority (MCA) has coordinated and worked together with the FSWS, the Office for the Commissioner for Children and the Directorate for Quality and Standards in Education to implement the BeSmartOnline! project (www.besmartonline.org.mt).

The project seeks to raise awareness on the risks associated with Internet use by minors. An extensive school campaign was carried out targeting students of different ages. Lessons in schools were delivered by both PSCD and eLearning teachers. MCA also collaborated with the PSCD and eLearning Department to offer training to teachers so that they have the necessary skills and information to continue to carry out lessons within their classrooms about this topic. The feedback received from teachers was very encouraging and thus the MCA is again planning to hold a seminar for teachers on 12th and 13th November at Le Meridian Hotel, St Julians. The seminar with be held back to back so that a good number of teachers may attend. Both seminars will focus on two distinct, albeit intertwined themes – “Self-harm, eating disorder and the Internet” and “Excessive Use of Online Technologies”. MCA believes that these seminars will be of particular interest to PSCD teachers, teachers from the eLearning Department, and those within the Student Services Department. Registration for one or both seminars, with the consent of the Head of School, should be done online at the link shown below, by Friday 30th October 2015.
